Not gonna lie...itís been a rough 4 months after surgery...the early April peek at the patch was actually looking pretty good...my knee was a tad swollen still...but the missus and I decided it just wouldnít be the same if we didnít try to get the gardens in order...

On the pumpkin side...the race was on...best I can tell we are two weeks behind last year...which makes sense...started 15 days later..you know?...when normal people start?
Thursday, June 20 View Page
The 2157 was the best out of the gate so got the prime spot...two days later the stem split so we put in an 1810 back-up...

Early, early spring was nice but come the first of May we got cold wet and grey, grey grey...total of 3 days of sun for the month...the plants got a little yellow-ee and slowed a tad...my diagnosis-it sucks out...let them alone...1810 (closest) laid down beautiful...2157...crack split wide open
Sunday, June 23 View Page
The 1810 porkchop is the winner...this pic from a little over a week ago...sheís starting to crank now...let the wind fence dance begin in the main patch...

Plants are in the garden...2 5.95ís made the cut...3 megadoms and 4 5.71 lambchops....Iím gonna have to stake these soon...whew!...glad thatís done...
Sunday, June 23 View Page
Now where the hell are all these gonna go?....
Sunday, June 23 View Page
That brings us to patch number 2...oh yea baby...thatís right...it is OnNN like DOnKeY KonG!...you know , and as I get thinking about it, Iím prolly gonna have to do a presentation at the big show in Vegas this year so I thought I would really try to do a good job documenting exactly what Iím going to do.. Now Iím not going to be testing the soil but I have tested before and the test always come back the same...so what do I know?...itís a wet area first and foremost...everything in the soil is relatively balanced , Iím just low on most stuff. ph is right about 7...Iím around 5% om...the ďtilthĒ is terrific...it just feels great...(doesnít taste as great as I thought it would but I donít think that part is all that important )...here Iíve added a few wheelbarrows of black leaf compost..
Sunday, June 23 View Page
After the compost was spread and tilled...I added 50lbs of organic fertilizer...(mostly a mix of foxfarms granular ferts)...also 10lbs of Wallace wow kelp, 2 cups of Epsom salts, 1/2 cup of borox...tilled it again...thatís step one..nice and finely tilled...chop up the worms...all the pieces grow new ones...(itís science.)..then I scraped all the ďcremaĒ off the top 6Ē into planting mounds...remember...early season it is wet here and tomatoes donít like wet feet in my area...
Sunday, June 23 View Page
Step 2 was to dig down 20Ē at each planting site...all easy digging in my gardens...gotta love good soil..
Sunday, June 23 View Page
After the holes were dug, we mixed in a few cups of soil conditioner at the bottom of each hole....step three, check...
Sunday, June 23 View Page
Step four, top off holes with good potting mix..this year itís happy frog potting mix..add starter fertilizer on the mounds and mix in....reshape...(those are my waddle marks in between the mounds..)
Sunday, June 23 View Page
Itís the black bag for all the plants in this garden...mounds all mixed and ready to plant...hard work is done
Sunday, June 23 View Page
A few days later and some rain we are ready to put plants in...Iím easily able to dig down 12Ē with my hand...two season long starter packs, azos and pumpkin mykos from Wallace wow...
Sunday, June 23 View Page
Thatís it...all planted....the rain watered them in...Wonít worry about them for another month..and now that they are planted....
Sunday, June 23 View Page
