wayne this from the horses mouth when germinating a 1288.

1. keep the temp evenly at 85-90 degrees-high end if possible
2. sand edges lightly (LIGHTLY) and if you soak only do so for 1/2 hr.
3. keep starting medium ( no garden dirt pls ) moist but on the dry side during germination. do not keep the medium saturated.
4.before placing seed starter and seed in pot? make sure there are several holes in the pots side for good heat and air flow

hope this helps

scuff the edges lightly until you see the effect of sanding, same with tip.

for pre soak we
1. dip the seed in a solution of 1 pt bleach 10 parts water for s couple seconds to disinfect seed.
2. soak for 1/2 hr in a 50% strength solution of kelp and sea weed mix.

for other seeds we would follow same directions except we soak seeds for 1 hr.

Thanks Pap,
I wish I had known that when we tried (desperately) to pop the 1288 we won in the SNGPG auction, what a great genetic cross! (too bad it failed to germinate). Sorry that you got the "amilio virus" on your great posts…

I certainly don't have the experience Pap has, but I ran some germination tests a couple years ago during the winter. Same seeds and same conditions (as close as possible) except for filing the edges. All those filed germinated at leasts 1 day ahead of the non-filed ones.

I advocate filing the seeds.

1288 is a off-white seed. Those suck up water better than thick tan husked seeds.I'd do whatever "dickie says".

Deed, has now been dun...and hoping for positive results!!! Germination chamber leveled off at 88F. By feel, the 1288 seemed to be a softer kinda seed...I am guessin that's why so many problems, and short soak time, w/slightly higher temps & dryer starting medium!!! Curious about the pattern on the sides of the seed, ie...(criss cross)dried on an old screen door? Was kul, beans...tho...same pattern on both sides!!! LOL Peace, Wayne

I planted the 1288 once and it was the best grower ever! Best grower and the leaves stayrd healthy longer. I heard that the 1288 had some germinatipn issues It appear that Pap has solved that riddle.
