bigmoon,
my understanding of aphids is that greenhouses do offer them protection from rain, wind, and sun, but especially from predators. Wasps and ants and carnivorous beetles regulate the aphid population in outdoor settings but those predators arent adapted to clear plastic, since they all rely on flying as part of their lifecycle and none of them are smart enough to fly around the plastic?

Aphids/whiteflies would disperse naturally but they are also not smart enough to fly around the plastic. Hence this is a big factor in why greenhouses get worse infestations of these bugs??? Its just the plastic is an impediment to basic predatory/prey population movement or migration.

If the wolves cant follow the sheep and the sheep can't make their way to new grass...
