This is a sample picture from my own patch that shows the early stages of Downy Mildew.
This is something you do not want to see on your leaves. If you look closely you will see small circles that have yellow-ish tint. Just looking quick this can be either downy mildew or powdery mildew, however attention to detail is key here for a proper diagnosis. If you inspect the circles very closely you will see that where there is a leaf vein near by it seems to stop the circle or at least make it not quite a perfect circle. This indicates that the problem is an internal one. Downy mildew is more of an internal disease compared to powdery mildew which is more superficial and because of this powdery mildew is easier to control than downy mildew.
There are different strains of downy mildew so there is not just “one” type of downy which can make control of this disease difficult especially for large scale farmers as this disease can defoliate pumpkin plants in as little as 7-10 days, which I have been witness to.
