This does not look good…

Walking by the patch and looking at my 1216.5 DeBacco ’11 plant I saw this, which is something you do not want to see. The main vine and leaves past this pumpkin were showing the symptoms so I basically took the chance and cut the vine at the pumpkin and ripped out the rest of the plant in hopes of stopping this wilt from spreading to any other plants.

The downfall is that I think this is a combination of Pythium and Phytophthora both of which are basically root related. What makes these diseases challenging is the roots from other plants have very likely interweaved with the potentially infected roots which allows for ease of transfer to seemingly healthily plants. The Phytopthora in particular can actually swim on its own in an aqueous (water based) environment and this is why I try and be aggressive by trying and catch the main point of infection as well as some of the new areas it may spread to. This is hard to do, but I would rather sacrifice one plant than lose the entire patch.
