the patch is not in the prettiest shape for this time of year compared to some of the other diaries i have seen. oh well, that leaves some room for improvement next year. lol. i have let the weeds now do their own thing as some of the grass weeds are over the canopy, but i am letting them alone and staying out of the interior of the plants at all times except for stump and main vine inspections and old dead leaf pruning. no sense tracking the powdery mildew everywhere to chop down some thin weeds that barely block any sunlight to the leaves. this thin clear 4 mil plastic will come down next week and all the supports will remain up. it is supposed to get back into the 80s in 8 to 10 days. then if we get another cold stretch in sept. or a chance of frost, i will purchase a 6 mil 100' squared piece of clear visqueen and tack it to the bottom of the outside fence and enclose fully the 1385 and 1161 plants all the way to the house and down the outside edge to the ground in the center of the patch. i will add some more 8' rebar support posts. that piece of plastic will be rolled up along the house and attached so all i will have to do is unroll it over the cables, and secure it at any time with a staple gun to the the outside of the fence line at ground level. duct tape will be used over the plastic before stapling to avoid tearing. the center of the patch plastic will have brick or rocks keeping that side of the plastic tight to the ground. basically i will have a make shift sturdy greenhouse over the 1385 and 1161 at my disposal throughout spet. if frost or freezing temps arrive, or if i just want to heat things up a bit if "it" becomes a long term grower over the next month. the old cables were in place still, so this is why the 1185 is not under the plastic. basically the 1161 is getting protected too while i am concentrating my efforts at warming up the 1385 plant.
