the weather is turnin' to the cool side for a week, so i decided on my rain day today to string some cable and rope across the 1385 and 1161 plants and throw up some plastic. my intentions are not to create a perfect greenhouse situation. all i am trying to do is to increase some heat in the soil this week a bit and maybe increase the air temp by 8 to 10 degrees in the day time on days when the sun breaks out. there is plenty of ventilation on each side of the plants as the plastic never drops below 5'. on a sunny 75 degree day i still think there is plenty ventilation to not cook the plants and plenty of gaps in the plastic to allow good rain drainage. there are support ropes and cables both ways under and over the plastic to avoid an upward gust from tearing it from its connections or downward rain ponding and sagging to the leaf canopy. 3 pieces of 8' rebar were put into the ground 2' and capped with a plastic osha safety caps to avoid ripping the plastic on the rebar. these were put down the center for support and good drainage of rain. there are no high winds predicted for the next week and the plastic already held on about a 20 mph gust in the rain. this is just a temporary experiment for the week as i am trying to gain every last pound out of "it" that i can.
