A question I wish I didn't have to ask! Have a couple of great seeds that I started germinating on May 1st, using the wet paper towel method. No action on either seed after 6 days. Neither of them are getting funky smelling. What is your rule of thumb as to when its time to give up and move on?

Don´t give up but don´t risk to waste time and better start some back-ups right now (maybe some of the best seeds from your own seed stock)...just in case. The other seeds in the zip bag...give them some fresh air and another week in their zip bag.

I had 3 that didn't start this year. After 8 days I gently opened the seed coats and found mushy cots. Sometimes they look good but just wont grow. After 6 days they likely aren't going to do anything.

Thanks everybody! Its a situation that is always disappointing, and weird when you are successful using the same method year after year, then this spring I go 0/3 with some seeds I really wanted to grow :-(

I went back to the old fashioned way, seed-in-dirt! I had inconsistent results with baggie method.

I actually use oven with the light on for a germination chamber. It works great for me and keeps around 89 degrees. Since I have been doing I have only had 1 seed not germ.
