Imidacloprid (Merit) is your friend. It is a systemic insecticide that, with proper application, will be present throughout the plant and will kill the SVB when they start chomping on the vine.

Add in a contact your seven will work but is tough on the plants. Typically used is a pyrethroid, an example is bifen.

Looks like he is trying to do this organically. So his options are limited. Pyrethrum is made from chrysanthemums it is organic but needs to be applied frequently

just ordered my seeds for the 2020 growing season.Trying to work up the best battle plan to protect my vines.Without spending a fortune on merit imidacloprid. Some bayer products have this in them.Thoughts?also how to apply granules and till into the earth?
My other thought is Diatomaceous Earth and till this in the hill.Do you think this would be beneficial?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I try to use multiple methods to get them. Imidacloprid as a systemic. Garlic powder as a repellent when the plants are small, and rotating contact sprays if I see any adults or cucumber beetles in the patch. I found that what really works great is -30 degree winter weather like we had the past 2 years. Too bad you can't get that when you want. This winter has been fairly mild,so I expect bug problems in the upcoming summer.
