            | Pumking | Pittsburgh, PA | My Stump appears to be dripping a clear liquid.
It's not foaming stump...at least it's not foaming yet. It also feels like there's a whole where it is dripping. No evidence of SVB.

Any idea what this could be?

            | BravoV2 | Elk County, PA | I'll give ya a guess. The hole is the reason its dripping liquid. You cut a flower, or stem, or tertiary you caught late, at the cut it drips clear liquid. The real question is what caused the hole. | 7/5/2013 11:33:00 PM |

            | Matt D. | Connecticut | My guess is a water back-up issue. If you have secondary vines terminated cut about one inch off them all and my guess is the dripping will stop. On the other hand if you have a growing pumpkin and cut it off you will see a lot more dripping.
I have done this to a plant that had a pumpkin that developed a stem split and was a lost cause anyway. By being able to turn on and off a "foaming stump" I proved that if the cause is simply a water back-up issue you can easily induce and eliminate the problem by giving the water a place to go.

Recently in our area (CT) we have had a long stretch of very humid days which will also result in a water back-up in the plant as the water can not evaporate into the atmosphere and as a result trans-location of water and nutrients has been reduced.
