Exactly, marigolds. I used to do that year by year since more than ten years (hoping that they catch some of the bad nematodes from the soil around the AG seedlings). I use a small variety (Bolero), usually they hide under the canopy. Last year, I guess I´ve had a tiny lack of nitrogen in my patch, the leaves were not so tall, that made it easier to see the marigolds in this pic:
