Probably a PVC pipe length of the same as the trench with graduatingly-sized larger holes or some 'wadding' over each to moderate the flow as the solution were to go along it might be a helpful idea. eg

Yes, but then doing drip irrigation with cheap drip tape would be the same thing. I'll probably try to do "flood irrigation" anyhow. I dumped a 55 gallon drum today and that created a small flood (but even that amount sank into the ground in less than a minute). More water and more fertilizer, is what the plant doctor has ordered!

I do have some 4" black drain pipe (already has holes) that I could drag around the garden. Hmm...

I found a 50-foot garden hose in the old garage that had holes in it from one of my own 'soaker hose' experiments of 15-20 years ago, lol. Of no use to me, now! I musta not used it because it was always on sloping/uneven ground, resulting in uneven...watering - I think the holes were of inc/dec/rea/sing sizes...eg---PS---Doing a watering like this, though, might be useful if always run at full pressure for a very short duration = DUMP tape, lol---eg

That reminds me I do have another roll or two of miscellaneous goods that could be repurposed. Meanwhile, I put a standard soaker hose on the rows I recently planted.
