Are you weighing the seeds? I also like the idea of knowing exactly what I'm starting with. I like using the thin coat seeds even though they weigh less they can be very vigorous and fast to sprout. Good luck.

Nice observation, yes I read an article on weighing field crop seeds, so I’m testing it on my AG’s. I picked my 30 best looking seeds like I always have but then weighed them all and took the two heaviest. I really don’t think this article will be relevant to the AG seeds. I feel the different weights will not be as much about the content of the seed as the different seed coat shapes and thickness, but there were a few that stood out, so we will see.

I always wondered if people pick the best looking seeds out for their private stash, I mean you grew it you should get the best looking seeds or do people just throw them in a pile and grab whatever? Who knows if it really has any impact. All the questions you need to grow 100 plants to figure out that will more than likely remain a mystery. Still them flimsy ones can't be as good can they?

is the thinnest and least-prosperous-looking seed I have and yet, they sprout really well, like 100% and one grew my heaviest pumpkin last year (442#)...oddly, 20 feet from my 178 that was gonna be much bigger/heavier butt rotted underneath. Sigh...eric g
PS-They should be genetically the same, butt planting a fat seed over a thinny-thin would usually make more sense, lol---eg
