Well I need some new life in my orange crosses and I’ve been chatting with a few growers about what’s what lately and I’d like to get others thoughts on what they think is good and why. It could be a sure thing selfed seed or maybe a gamble on a big seed with some % orange potential. I like the 1211 ailts and the 1044 ya serf right now and this is because I’ve seen some great results. I also like the 1654 Martin 2018 and that’s what I call a gamble. What do you all think and why?

We just need another 811.😀 I like the 1810 Werner and 1501 VanderWielen for size and that cross did well for Glenna. 1044 produced a real nice OrAnge for me lAst year and the 681 produced a nice one for me this year. I like the 1211 and also the 1002. Early plans have the 1211 and 1002 Ailts, 1044 and 681 Gansert, the 1382.5 Rea and some of my own. Will keep an eye on the auctions to see if I can snag a 1501 or 1810.

476 Harnica also grew a very nice colored Orange red for me. Unfortunately I am struggling to get much over 500 lbs on my oranges.

1501 is a bit of a crapshoot. It throws some uglies and I personally would be more interested in growing its progeny. I'm excited about Rea's and Wagner's 1501 X 1810 and 1810 X 1501 crosses. Also Quinn's 1501 X 2112 and his 2112 X 1937. Chris Brown had a beauty of a 1501 self, there may be a few other nice self's out there too.

I agree with cbj. 1501 and 1810 are far from guaranteed orange. 1044 Gansert threw a beautiful orange for me a couple years ago before I lost it. 742 House grew awesome spotted orange 1303 pounder for me this season but shape was a flat pancake. I believe there is huge orange potential in the 742 House seeds if grown by the right grower.

...mobeymike seems to have luck with orange.
I thought last year's Haist lines might throw a really good orange but mine was light orange.

Quinn says best cross he has made... thats quite a statement. Probably a big & credible hint.
