I saw a rumor on the main page about a new rule and I asked Randal Rhodes and he confirmed that pumpkins will have to be 90% or more orange in color or they will be ruled as squash. Like the old squash rule was years ago. I checked with Darrel Abbot and Stephen Vaughan and they confirmed that it is true.

When would this "new rule" take effect I wonder? I checked the main page and didn't see any talk about this but maybe I just missed it.

Really not sure what you are referring to. Any Rule changes made by the GPC Committee would take place prior to the growing year, and announced by the GPC President at the annual convention.

I think there's a secret code in there somewhere...

I beg to differ Wizzy I just got an email from Charlie Berry confirming the secret meeting you guys had in Cleveland Ohio. He said that everyone agreed that giant pumpkins need to be orange so as not to confuse the public and keep our sport out of the limelight any longer. I’ll email Gerald Garcia just to double check but at this point I am pretty sure it is legit.

Well he did sound pretty mad that you went to that *NSYNC reunion show instead of the meeting Gary.

Good discussion..the 90% rule..some growers are thinking about it. I just receiveid an email from Dmitri Gurevich, maybe we should rename the GPC the GSC. Is white pumpkin or squash?

Look at all the green in the 2624 pumpkin. Is that going to be a squash now?

I can see many a arguments at GPC weigh off sites next year. It’s going to be a judgment call. Is it only 80% orange 89% 90%. Oh brother.

Bnot, you bring up a good point. Is white going to be pumpkin or squash. I think there is some sort of chess match going on right now in the GPC. a lot of pawns are being played. And as you know, dmitri knows how to play them. Maybe white pumpkins should have their own category. Put them separate from the pumpkins and squash, in a white room with black curtains that is right near the weigh station. I’ll see if the MAGPG might want to do something like that.

See, it’s already starting. I think the GPC intentions are to downsize it’s membership pool. To include growers.

Randal Rhodes just called my sisters brothers cousin and apparently he’s really worried that if we don’t all start growing orange pumpkins then maybe nobody will even believe that we can play guitar anymore. Not even Ozzy.

Orangeneck, tell mr. Rhodes and mr. Osbourne hello for me. Last time I saw them was on my 16th birthday, at a gathering, we were at. :)

You might have fooled me if you said Jim Martin was your source. The color rules are much better now than they used to be. There were some pretty bad classifications back in the day- like an 846 Calai offspring becoming the state record squash in Ohio. I think it was a PNW grower around that time who grew 2 fruit on one plant- one shaded and one not shaded- and one was classified as a pumpkin and the other was a squash.

That’s right Dan! And in between songs, while we worked on fixing our intonation, is when Frankie told me that the Pennsylvania 2018 growing season is what influenced SRV to write The Sky is Crying.
