It was officially announced at our patch tour/summer picnic that the governor of Ohio, Ted Strickland, will be weighing in at Circleville a pumpkin from the late Buddy Conley's seed, provided the pumpkin makes it to the weighoff. The governor and Mrs. Strickland were very pleased with their giant pumpkin Halloween displays at the Governor's residence.
Dr. Bob Liggett and his son David have been providing assistance with the project and it promises to be a very exciting time in Circleville on Oct. 21st.
The weighoff should provide spark an even more widespread interest in the hobby. While I'm sure there are also political ramifications, I'll choose to accept it as a boost to the city of Circleville, which hasn't fared well in these tough economic times. Good luck governor!
