No experience with this so I figured I would ask the pros. I have two early plants that just look way meaner then the rest. I started 22 early and those two are on a different level. Thick and wide. If I clone them as my late May/Early June starts will they keep this trait or is it a crap shoot?

They will as long as they are in the exact some soil and treated the exact same way and have exact same weather lol, but if planted somewhere else in different soil it will be a gamble as to the likeness. Sure won't hurt to try, nothing to loose .

My PB was on a clone plant last year. I took all my suckers in the early season last year and stuck them in pots of dirt. Most took some didn't. Just an FYI tomato clones can be planted straight in soil. Just keep them quite wet for the first few days.

Probably will try that way with pro-mix and Dixie cups, I like the ease of writing on the cups with sharpies.

I've stuck tomatoes in cups of water, and they produce roots like crazy. Pretty hard to kill a tomato, unless you deprive it of enough water, like Scott said. I would say putting them straight in a cup of water is the best bet until roots start to emerge, because otherwise you run the risk of them getting too dry.
