We are thinking about growing tomatoes indoors this fall for consumption. I've only grown beefsteak varieties inside with poor yields. Are there any particular varieties that do better than others? Thanks

One of the greenhouse varieties maybe? If you are using artificial light the energy is very expensive, unless the energy is dual purpose (helps heat your house)... then maybe it's less painful.

Try a determinate variety, so that it stops growing at a certain size, and maybe a smaller tomato would be easier to ripen with fewer nutrients, so a small eating type, such as dwarf firebird sweet, or other varieties suited to container growing.

Thanks, I'll take your advice. We will be using artificial lighting and the plan is to have the lights plugged into an inverter. The battery bank is charged with a single 200 W panel. That's the plan anyway.
