Always wondered this... I'd like to carry a melon up north or out west... Who's game for a road trip?

Nothing in the Northeast really pays much for melons, (That I am aware of)
The Durham Fair pays 150 for first, 100 for second 50 for third. I am psyched they pay that much. For a few years I brought melons when there was no cash prize at all.
What's the name of that big weigh off in Ohio. I believe that is where Chris Kent brought his world record. I would imagine they pay pretty well.

Check out Stillwater's prize list. Watermelon's aren't the best but if you bring a 1000+ pumpkin with you, it could make it worth your while.

The 2018 SOGPG list. Jus' sayin':

Giant Watermelons

1. $2,000.00
2. $800.00
3. $400.00
4. $200.00
5. $150.00
6. $100.00
7. $75.00
8. $50.00
9. $50.00
10. $50.00

Bonuses (only one shall apply)
* New World Record - $500.00
*New State Record - $250.00

We'd have done better, but we had some expenses to cover.

wile...I think you need to reread the stillwater prize list...it is not a 1000 pounds that pays...it is 1500 pounds that pays $1000 bonus. I think Hamilton might be the furthest northern weighoff that pays big money for watermelons. Maybe next year I will not grow pumpkins and try my hand at watermelons...I know I have a collection of best seeds. Road trip south sounds fun.
