Hello, I have one plant on which the main vine is very yellow, and after a few days the new leaves on that vine still aren't fully opening. The stem and other leaves look normal.

Go to grower diaries from the home page or "select destination" drop down and post once in there. This is a hard one without a pic

Thanks all. I posted in grower diaries under Redbear74 username. The message indicated the photo is under review. I appreciate you taking a look when photo is available.

just from what you said it sounds like maybe herbicide drift combined with nutrient defeciency or yellow vine decease. one more question are the oldest leaves the first to yellow?

Thank you for the reply! No, the vine is yellow, leaves not fully opening along entire yellow vine, oldest leaves green (nearer to root). Interestingly, the vine that is yellow with curled leaves still growing at a rapid pace and shooting secondaries. Pic posted in diary.

I’ll stick with my guess of herbicide drift based on the photo

Are you spraying anything foliar? There's something wrong for sure.

Could be drift from neighboring corn field. No foliar, but have been applying 3-18-18 and Microblitz (alternating weeks). This is my only plant that exhibits these symptoms.

I would def switch to a high-N WS fertilizer, instantly, butt with the first watering with it at half strength. I typed this before researching Micro-Blitz. Consider still why the fert being used is being used. Was it from a soil test and its results, availability of the product, its numbers sounded good, a top grower once said to use it, etc. I am NOT condescending/preaching, but I use a 24-8-16 formula every 2nd or 3rd (I'm slow, lol) day and my plants, with a random/when I get to it, but well-intentioned/happy as can be with the results, etc. regimen, are doing as well as ever and even surprising me. Decent growth rate (8 inches per day on just the slower ONE I checked), green everything, big leaves, males coming on and females showing up > ...almost Party Time!!! Lately, I'm seeing a lot of getting away from the usage of the defining #s on water-soluble fertilizers and their timing as to the age of the plants. IMHO, '24-16-8, 8-24-16, 8-16-24' would be more 'palatable' at selected points, in my opinion. You may be using 3- (way too low, IMHO) 18-18, where an 18-18-3 might be more time-appropriate. I am not a HH, yet, nor a soil/fertilizer expert, to be clear, so my advice should mulled over and yet, maybe given a try. My plants do not have ANY adverse effects and although I planted them out VERY late, they are 'just right' for my so-called schedule. No pressure and super-good luck to you! eric g

I appreciate all of the replies. Thank you Eric, for the thorough reply. I have access to wide array of 100% orthophosphate liquid fertilizers, I can easily switch to a higher N value (like 9-18-9, for example) and use higher P, K and micros after pollination. My plants are a couple weeks less mature than yours, based upon the flowering you described.

FWIW, the Microblitz is a game changer on pumpkins, tomatoes and many others.

Thank you in return. One cannot know it all without being the other. I have about 18 plants that are about the same size as the one pictured. The flowering ones and 8" per day ones are my 6 that are indeed in the best 'Sun Run' (the track that the Sun follows, probably for about a week at first, lol) and have had *Floating Row Cover Greenhouses on them until a few days ago. Once *FRCGH'd, lol, they really take off, then. I was concerned that there were no recommendations yet as to other than the cause of the deformity. Good luck and Happy 4th!---eric g

Happy 4th! I have other plants that are healthy. I’ve only grown a 600 lb pumpkin in the past, hoping to go over that this year. I don’t thin them down to one plant, prefer to have a good number of big pumpkins.
