Hey People, long time no post. Life gets in the way, lol.
Quick question...did anyone ever start (or may be continuing) any line-breeding or line purifying with any Gancarz seeds? Maybe using the 530 or the 390? If my memory serves me, maybe Madman and/or Nic may have pursued this a bit.
I know this isn’t the best time of year to be asking, as everyone is so busy. But if I didn’t ask now...
I’m not really asking to debate the relevance. Which is why I decided to post it in General Discussion. Just curious if anyone has or is doing this?
Thanks for the help! I hope y’all grow a new PB, Snake Oil

Correct me if I'm wrong...it has been a long time....the 390Gancarz 84 was selfed to make the 671Gancarz86 which was selfed to make the 574Mitchell87* which was selfed to make the 653Stellpflug88* which was selfed to make the 821Stellpflug90*. Stellpflug then sibbed and selfed numerous 653's and 821's and the progeny from them into what some of us used to call The Stellpflug line of squash. A few others selfed/sibbed these squash after that.Check with some of the old farts in this hobby if thats what you're looking for.....this would be your line bred/purified 390Gancarz no? Old Guys like Madman Marc Sawtelle, Nic where did you go Welty, Methusala, Tom the money-man Beachy, Moses, Kaz Kazcinski....and another guy from Ohio who's name eludes me.

Your memory serves you well Glen. If mine serves me, the offspring of the 671 is when the “green” started. I am wondering if anyone did this same line-breeding outside of the “green” ones, potentially through other 390 offspring?

All the world record holders pass through the gancarzs seeds. they held the world record twice. It would be almost impossible that these genetics aren't in todays monsters. They had top weights in the 800 lb range. that was way back when... need to talk to real old timers who traded by phone to get seeds.

Yeah, not looking for seeds. I’ve got all I could ever need. Just wondering whether there were anyone else with these same pursuits out there? Thx

What up G... You still kicking it i see !!! Man I never check the message board for some reason I dropped in tonight after late night vine burying.... what do you mean old farts in this hobby? LOL... Answer to your question I had some selfed Gancarz stuff for a while going but the stuff I grew from Gancarz, Stellpflug, and Kurt Hermann are all sitting in a box somewhere . I have been infusing some modern genetics with some older stuff recently. I have partnered up with Art Kaczinski this year and we both are growing his 129 genetic (734 Ciliberto F X 2145 M}. I would prefer using some selfed lines to breed with, but I partnered up with Art on his experimental genetic just to see how it performs in my main patch. the 734 has a gancarz gentic in it that isnt in anything growing today. We believe that was a genetic worthy of pursuing so thats is what we both focused on this season. He has some secret stuff going on the side with the 990 bax selfed a bunch, and I have some stuff Ive been selfing many generations too. Art and I plan to test more stuff over time that will infuse modern genetics with some early stuff. We believe we can help create some genetics we need to reach 3,000 pounds, and I finally will be making some very interesting genetics this season . Ill have a 4X self X 3X self seed ready for next year as well as a selfed 616 Corkum ( a 1998 seed David Garrell germinated this winter and sent me ). So there are different genetics being worked with and tested from wayyyyyy back, we just haven't seen yet what potential genetics we have created yet. after this season we should be able to shed quite a bit of light on what we have been doing, and what we discover. Where is Beachy and Welty anyways... more important is what the hell have you been doing all this time lurking G? LOL ! ok,,, time to get some rest... 5AM comes early
