I have used mill fabric with a fine layer of sand. This has kept the bottoms nice and flat. However, last year I needed to move the kin at about 800+ pounds because it was growing a lot towards the vine and kinking the vine right at the stump. I looped a padded seat belt strap around it and gently pulled it with a come-along. The pumpkin moved a bit but it was so hard to do that I was afraid of cracking it.

Would two layers of mill cloth work better? What about a piece of plywood under the mill cloth and pull the plywood with the come-along?

I'd appreciate your ideas and suggestions.

I sandwich the end of the mill fabric with 2x4’s then grab them with a log grapple...grip on the center if it has to come back...grip off to the side if it needs to twist a little...works like a charm up to 1500lbs

I've begun liking the idea of growing them on a pallet. Pull the pallet rather than the pumpkin. It has to be a very sturdy pallet sized to the final size of the pumpkin though. I make a flat surface with cedar fencing because plywood could puddle water... but if the pumpkin is covered the pallet should mostly stay dry too.

If you have mill fabric, lol. That stuff is made of unobtainum.

Poke two holes in your mill fabric and attach to that and pull not your kin and like Pork Chop says use 2 layers of mill fabric. Pulls real easy.

Sorry for a belated response on why to pull mill fabric and not kin. Mill fabric will bark up the skin on your kin if you try to drag it across it unless you have some sand on mill fabric. I don't use sand
