Both my plants have long main vines and short secondaries, actually a few never formed. They are starting to grow now that it has warmed up. Any ideas to help salvage a big plant before I have to pollinate. Cut the main and retrain secondary ? Nitrogen ? Has anyone seen this before these plants where put in early April and I had very cool nights low fifties. Thanks

I have had this happen almost every year. I only grow in 5 hours of direct light, and believe the cause is shade, wet soil and fluctuating temps. Once I terminate the main after I get a pumpkin set in June, the stunted secondaries will usually all pick up. It only takes a week or so to fill in, so they won't take much away from the pumpkin growth in the beginning.

Random observation... do you happen to have any Sycamore trees around? I have noticed during the Springs that Sycamores get Anthracnose (die back of buds and spotted, wilted leaves in spring), my pumpkin plants start off the worst.
