Hi,

My young plants are in a mix of 1/3 pellets of chicken-cow manure, 1/3 of compost and 1/3 of regular soil.

My question is: what do you experts give young plants (3-5 leaves) as extra fertilisation first? (I already gave them some Fish-Mix but that's not really a "heavy" fertilisation, I think.)

short answer for us would be half strength seaweed and humic/fulvic from Wallace wow. But I dunno if that would be a good idea with the soil you started in. (We never use regular soil to get started. Important to remember that “heavy” fertilizing is for plants that are established enough to handle “heavy” fertilizing. You can slow down a plant with strong food and not even know you have slowed it down at this stage. I’d lean toward light feeding at this stage in f the plant is a green.Good luck!

What ever you give them go very light with the feeding.Id recommend a balanced water soluble fertilizer such as 15-30-15.Just a light dose once a week to make sure theres nitrogen and phos. available while the soil is still cool.They dont use much when there small.See how your plants respond.

lol---those are NICE plants. i'm joking, but, is the total growing area the bare dirt? time for pruning, lol!

PS - yes, what everyone has said and when it comes to watering on plants such as yours, if you use a watering can, i suggest actually holding onto each leaf that you are concerned about getting wet for the sake of foliar feeding, to avoid weighting-down any leaf that might otherwise bend/crack/SNAP your stem(s); just go around the plant and only go toward the center of it just enough to cause the outer/flexible edge of the leaf to go downward, and then back off, and then don't press your luck trying to 'do a good job'; once yer happy with foliar feeding, then sway the watering can shower back and forth to keep from pooling and/or rinsing away any soil that may expose roots or stem; i just got a kink in my shoulder for no reason - time for some sleep! later---eric g
