I think the closest gpc affiliated place is in Kentucky. Its 109 inches still growing. Hopefully all works out ok and it doesn't break off lol..

Nice job Tim! We use a 2x6 and duck tape to remove LG's off the vine. You can also transport them easily that way, just remember to put a red flag on the end so trucks won't run into your gourd.

While it is growing, tape it to a board with black electrical tape. It will stretch as the gourd grows, but can prevent a disaster.. Attach the top of the board to the trellis and the bottom to a stake in the ground so it doesn't get swinging. Don't take a chance. I have had a couple of nice gourds end up in pieces.

Tim,

Do what Iowegian says but rather than using electrical tape, if you have access to a pair of panty hose, cut it into pieces and tie it on loosely with that. It is very stretchy and won't effect the gourds ability to grow. Take a look at the pictures on my diary under "barryl"

Tim you might consider removing the long gourd from the plant and storing it(as soon as its done growing) till you get it measured. They tend to build up fluid in the tip which can cause a rot spot or shriveled tip if left on the plant until October. The current rules don't allow for that phenomenon.
