How long can a fruit stay on the vine, not growing, and still make it to a weigh-off? I'm trying to decide what to do, the later weigh-off is 16 days later.

Keep it dry, build a shelter over it if you can to keep the sun and the rain off of it. Put a pallet under it if you can. As long as it's sound, it will last.

If it's not growing then take it asap. That's my opinion... But barely growing is just fine. I have had one hold up to 150 days. Probably could have stayed on a week longer if I had kept the rain off the stem.

Whether it is still growing or not is irrelevant. A healthy mature pumpkin will last for ages. If your pumpkin stopped growing early, like day 50 or something, it is probably a sign that it is not healthy. Either way, take steps like Barry suggested to better your chances. You could also consider putting a fungicide on the stem because I have seen this area dry out or begin to rot fastest. And keep in mind that bug especially cucumber beetles will still eat the hell out of a finished pumpkin so a light spray every so often is a good idea.

Let us know how it goes. The younger ones will go downhill faster. I dont think anyone's kins should be completely done growing yet. I would be worried if mine stopped. I have a small woven poly line taped around mine so I can see the growth. I crimp it and the mark stays in the line. . .Its easy to see as little as 1/4 inch of growth.
