So I live in New River az. It’s still hot and temps will be around 110. Not everyday but here and there. I live in new river so it’s a tiny bit cooler then Phoenix. I want pumpkins for Halloween. So I’ve started a few variety’s. Big Mac,Connecticut field and jack o lanterns. Started them inside for now. What advice can anyone give me to get these plants growing and growing green?

Looks like everyone else is enjoying bbq. Well... more posts from me I guess. I read that plant tissue begins to degrade at 115 degrees. They might do well under mist if you have that much water. Automatic timer, every ten min or so for half a minute? Another guy in your area uses shade fabric over the entire plant. I expect that would be necessary also, unless by lucky chance you get some really good genetics.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll be putting up shade cloth today before I plant the plants.

Go to grower diaries and go back to 2016-2018, search for the other Arizona growers. I know there was at least 2, you can see their setups in detail.

Also check out the Arizona Giant Pumpkin Growers club. Even though you are growing field varieties, the basics for growing in Arizona will be the same. No need to re-invent the wheel. Reach out to them and see if you can find a local mentor. Here is the link: https://www.azgpg.com/Home_Page.html

I think Sandkins handle now is Davidmpls aka Davidphx. He moved back to Minneapolis after living in Phoenix for 20 years.

Nope, Sandkins is different from Me "Davidmpls aka Davidphx"
Look in my diary from last few years as 'Davidphx" DeanAZ and I started spring growing in the desert. I'm back in black soil Minnesota now, watching my plants take off. You need 30% shade cloth, find a timer that can run tiny irrigation pin spray every 10 mn during the day. You will have a tough time pollinating during anytime over 95F....but I did it in 2010 during an August week of storms....thats why we started our own spring contest, Jan-May....so we could pollinate during the 70f days in March....good luck. Sandkin is the champ in Arizona....drop him a line....I'm busy moving wind fence ahead of growth every 24hrs lol.
