2114 wallace plant, plant looks great , now at 35 ft across, & baby pumpkin at 12 ft out, So my 4 day old is only 7.5 inches circumference Weather could not be any better, But one of those that chose to be stem straight up, but now coming down, SO it seems to be growing kind o slow ? I Think ? not sure, Another one ready in 2 days to pollinate at 17 ft out! but i have already prepared for the one at 12 ft ! Anyone have sizes of babys at less than 10 days ?

Since you ask, here’s one example from each year for CC (DAP 4) from 2012 and on. Personally, I’d just wait a few days and see if it grows. I get the curiosity though, nothing worse than waiting to see if one took.

2012 - 14”
2013 - 13”
2014 - 9”
2015 - flooded out
2016 - 12”
2017 - 11”
2018 - 12”

Huge range in size even at day 1 for me, depending on the amount of energy/ overall health of the plant at time of flower formation. I've had everywhere from 4" circ to 9" circ at pollination, and 14# to 48# at day 12. One problem I've had in the past is very healthy plants not wanting to take, even at low nitrogen levels. Maybe someone else has some experience with the 2114 Wallace?

GO by day to day gains.It should be putting on 2 or more inches a day and that should increase as it gets 7days plus.I Cant tell if many of mine are set till day 6 or 7 in our climate.It will either accelerate or stop so measuring this young gives that info.The gains are somewhat genetic from strain to strain so don't lop it off just cause its a slow starter.

If the stigma bends it probably didnt take. If firm, cross fingers that plant will change its priorities. I agree with the idea that it could be genetic and that size doesnt matter its cell density that matters.

Big range on size up to day 20, some start slow others fast, I don't bother measuring till about day 15-20 as long as I see the pumpkin gaining even slowly and more important staying shiny. Plus measuring this early may result in you nicking the little pumpkin.

The 1st 5 days are always the slowest. We don't both to measure until day 10. Our 1678 was only 13.5" on day 10, while our 1959 was 19". We've had some as high as 24 & 25" that turned out to be smaller pumpkins in the end. We don't get too worried about the measurements until day 30. That is when you'll really know your pumpkins real potential.

THanks everybody !!! It is most likely gonna take! Its at 9.5 inches cir -DAP & that's around the shorter distance cir, its kind of hard to get a cir with stem in way,

Just terminated first secondarys at 17.5 ft ea ! that should kick things up a bit too !!!

Day 9 at 17 inches, but the next pumpkin at 16.5 ft is 7.5 on day 3 , I will still probably go with the one at 12 ft though, it does have 8 secondarys ea side ,And the one at 16.5 has no more secondarys than the 12 ft out one ! It had a couple but had to be cut, (no room left )
