Wait a minute though...because my question is starting to look like it could possibly be one of the dumbest questions I’ve ever asked on this site which is funny to me the more I read it.....but does the tobacco virus come from the plant?...or just susceptible like the tomatoes are...?... or more susceptible which would then spread?...or not, and I could just not get the virus and the plants would all get along?.....thanks

My concern would be that the seed carries the virus, and then it gets transferred to the tomatoes via your hands or insects. Otherwise, I wouldn't think you would have it in your soil if you've never grown tobacco.

Funny you bring this up. I've been looking at how to grow and cure tobacco at home.

I thought of mentioning tobacco mosaic too. But I didn't mention it as there are lots of other vector species besides tobacco. As long as your tobacco looks healthy before transplanting it, I would not be too concerned.( just my opinion. )
Shannon's view is a valid conservative Point of view i am not discrediting it. An analogy that comes to mind is if you stay out of the stores during flu season you will reduce your chances of getting the flu. That is true but you have to be able to have a life too. Tobacco mosaic can be spread through so many species even wild plants can have it. Smokers can spread it too just by touching the plants after smoking contaminated tobacco. Once you have the virus in your garden it isn't going any where for a long, long time.

Thanks for the info...I think I’m going for it and take the chance...I smoke like a chimney and touch my plants all the time so hoping I’ve built resistance... If not and I get the tmv it’ll be a good excuse to quit growing...win win
