It's been cold and wet here my best plant the 1843 Werner looks awesome in the shelter but I'm afraid that if we don't get any sunny days shortly that it will stop growing, I have back ups in 2 gallon pots but if I don't get them in the ground soon they will be done also , any advise would be greatly appreciated!

If there is any way that you can warm up the ground. Maybe soak the ground with warm water. Might help take the chill off the roots. I have never done it when it is this cold out befor but worth a try. Besides that, cross your fingers, and pray. Alcohol sometimes helps just dont get any on the plant. This global warming sure sucks. Another day of 46 degrees. Normal this time of year 68.
If it makes you feel any better, my plants are still in the garage on the in floor heat concrete. They are safe but way over due to get moved to the patch.

Boat is the right word. 2017 was the wettest growing season on record followed by 2018 the new wettest growing season on record. And now it’s only the 13th of May but the weather man said today it is already the 14th wettest May on record with 16 days left to set the bar higher than ever. Glad to have soil cables and hoops and trying to stay optimistic that we will still have a normal summer or maybe even drought sounds nice about now.

Yeah I chose a bad year to use row cover instead of a cold frame that would keep the cold wet rain out. We need some sun and warmth too.

It won't exactly stop growing, it'll just sit idle for a while. Fortunately you have time on your side still. I rush to get June pollinations here due to the heat in July, but up there you likely can still pollinate by the old window (July 10th) and grow comfortably.

I do get the frustration though, I had such a wet year and flooding in 2015 I pulled the plants. Regretted it instantly.

Use a small second hut over your plant on the coldest days,use a heater or light bulb for heat, you can also add grow lights if its cloudy

I know it sucks for you guys, but to put things into perspective, our weigh off is 1 month earlier than most of the country, so our plants have to be started 1 month earlier. Average temp at that time is high of mid 30's and low in teens.Even in a bad year, you don't have to put as much into it just to keep the plants alive for the first 6 weeks. Be thankful for the good years. Mother nature usually throws a temper tantrum at least once a season, doesn't she? maybe this will get it out of her system for the season....

Baitman makes a good point. Last year I wrapped my cold frame in a quilt at night. It is amazing what that extra insulation will do for the plant along with a heat bulb.
