What's the cost of postage these days on a sase bubble?

Think 3.65 here, went up this year like 50 cents for package rate. Some post offices won't charge the package rate, but if they don't it goes through a tighter sort machine and has the chance of being smashed. I always go the few extra cents to make sure it's safe.

Here it is a base price of 3.65 plus extra for each postal zone away that it goes. From IL to either coast is 3.94.

The base price is 3.65 and that is for a 1 oz. Parcel in your zone. The price increases for each additional oz. and for zones outside your area. I paid 4.65 for a number of bubbles that I sent to the West Coast.

Ask your postal service rep if the package can be considered a "large envelope". The rep should then determine of the package is bendable (check) and if it fits thru the narrow template cutout each has behind the counter (check).

If its only a seed or two, it should meet both criteria for large envelope, in which case the postage is just over a buck.

Yes Joe it might work however with good seed I would not risk it.I have had a couple show up with boot prints on the bubble.I put good seeds in a prescription bottle.Pay the 3.65 the government needs your money.I need my seeds in 1 piece

The government may need my money but I feel no obligation to give it to them, especially if my packages fit the criteria of a lower rate. :)

I/the SCGA ships hundreds, possibly thousands, of seed packages a year through the USPS and have found this strategy consistently effective. International is another story.

Thin seeds can make it. Rollers are about 1/4 inch I reckon. Thicker seeds can get cracked and then they are a close to no good at that point.

For cracked seeds... germinate in a paper towel and try to keep things sterile. Adding/soaking w/H202 might help. They can rot more easily because the seed coat is what normally keeps bacteria and funguses out so if its cracked they get in...not to mention the seed embryo may be weak because of the physical damage. Cracked seeds... They're a pain.

Im talking broken & crushed seeds,I dont think much hope for them.I like the little boxes GWG ships & The Kentucky club.Every time I try to cut corners on anything.Cheaper tools Cheaper Auto parts etc. I get spanked. So to each his own.Beware on a good seed I would gorilla proof the package. You coming to Green Bay Joe?

I agree with Joe. I can staple 4 packets on a piece of paper-the key is to keep the bubble flat. Goes for 2 stamps ($1.10). I have mailed many thousands of bubbles for the OVGPG without problems. You guys are giving the USPS too much of your money.

I create Postage in Paypal with my scale and average is $2.66 for a 2 ounce bubble. I was able to send bubbles international first class large envelope for like $3.00. But they changed the customs and can only send documents now.

Would you send a 2145 the same way? Joe? Alan?

Paying more doesnt necessarily mean they will be handled differently. The worst thing would be to pay at the $4 rate and have them run it through the rolling machines anyhow. I did ok this year only a couple cracked seeds. If its not a scarce seed sure send it the cheap way but if its a seed your club cant replace... Id say dont risk it!

Any seed can fit through the roller slats without any consequence. Just put one seed per packet. It’s the 3 seeds per packet, especially a clear plastic packet where they are very loose, that pile up on themselves and crack in the roller. Even the fattest seed is only 1/8 inch thick. Think about it.

Yes common seed I would use common sense.I have had 2 shipments crushed the cheap way coming to me in the last 7-8 years. So I guess you can save a lot of money. However hot seeds that are of great value say $50 & up. I put in a prescription bottle I have 100s of them a customer gave me.She removed the labels & washed them first. Then I place in the bubble.Im a overkill kind of person.Quality first.

I have had seeds crushed in bubble a few times that’s why the Ky group use the small boxes. They are not expensive and cost the same as a bubble. The last two I sent out cost around 3.70

Measure a fat seed... They're 1/4 inch. I agree about spreading them out. Not every postal route uses the same equipment. Field kin seeds are 1/8 inch. They should fit. Its fine if you want to send a 1/4 inch seed through a 1/4 slot if you are willing to replace it for free. Extra external padding wont help. I dont want anyone to spend more than necessary but especially as a new grower if you get a cracked seed... Ask for a replacement. Your 90% germination rate just went down to 10%. Its not your fault. Ask for a replacement. The clubs have been told the risk and should assume responsibility for their choice in how to get the seed to you. For every completely broken seed there are probably two others that have cracks or hairline fractures that will affect germination.
There is no way to change the unfortunate fact that we are right on the edge of what can simply be sent in an envelope. But yeah for a replabeable seed ... yes, send it in a mini padded envelope for one or two stamps.

I wish that for the less sought after seeds that growers would more often put multiple seeds per packet. This would give the auction free replacements if needed or it would allow cheaper shipping with the assurance that surely one seed would make it. And if they all make it-- great-- the grower has the option to plant more than one and choose the best plant.

Yeah Bubba pumpkins world is just like the real world. Silly online debates. Sometimes people invade your patch for real. Just like the real world.

If the seed is hard or impossible to replace I wouldn't try to go budget on shipping. Ive seen a lot of cracked seeds using the smaller sized bubble envelopes. Many of them have come from Wisconsin-they must have a harsh machine in their central office. If replacing the seed is no problem then it makes economic sense to try the two stamp envelope method.

Im not sure which is the real world anymore since the real world can be so fake! The only real thing left is sitting out in the pumpkin patch.

I pay $1.50 in a 4"x4" bubble. Shipped 61 requests since October.
I pay $1.36 to ship to Europe in the same bubble pack. Shipped about 33 packages to Europe since then. I ship via first class
