Only my third year and haven't been able to set more than two kins per plant. I know some of you grow multiple kins on a plant. I've only been able to set one on any main and another on a secondary. Never could set more than one on a main. The more kins I have equals more beer money!!! I grow 8-10 in my personal patch and several others at a couple farms. Why only one set on the main....30 plus feet? I have a short growing season. Curious how you do it, I'm Thirsty!

My experience: It all comes down to the nodal roots... Manure piles right? Spread farther next year... Only if each secondary has its own good root system then it can grow its own pumpkin.

I dont know of anyone who has set more than one on the same main without one or the other aborting... I think the best way to get multiples is to dead end the main early and run all your best secondaries out like each is a mini main... Not totally certain. But thats basically how I grew six or seven on one plant in 2016. Great question T Hoff.

Overall plant health is probably tops on the list. A poorly timed heatwave will knock out some sets, but I would say if the soil fertility is up there, you should have no problem setting multiples on a plant eventually.
You can set multiples on the main, too. I remember Rocky Rockwell had one in the 600s and one in the 500s, same main, about 6 feet or so apart. Same side even. This was probably back in 2000 or 2001.

My 907 Young....problem child....self terminated the main this year at 6'..trained four secondaries into where the main would be. 3 left out of four but a small plant. Fits with terminating the main. I didn't grow out of manure piles my first 2 years. At least 50 plants my first 2 years. Still a new grower and looking for input. Porkchop nice to see you answering questions with more than a yup or nope!!

I've also found if you have one set on the main everybody aborts. My start dates are all late..pretty sure that has something to do with it.

Thanks big T...I’m workin on improving...although I do like answering the easy questions I’m sure about..I’m w Andy about overall plant health and nutrition but you live where spring starts at the beginning of July and winter is 5 weeks later so I’m not quite sure about your specific conditions...in season tissue testing could give you some answers...maybe not..should I just send beer?...
