How many 2145 McMullens are you planning to grow this year? How many do you think will be grown worldwide this year? It is going to be a lot! What is your best guess????

Not only will almost every 2145 left be grown this season, I think nearly everyone this season owns a seed that has the 2145 as the 2016 female. I predict that the 2145 will have a larger reputation than the 2009 wallace with the amount of breeding that is being done with it's genetics.

Planting one this year, keeping the other as either a backup or for next growing season.

Big melons, that's my point. The 2145 is indirectly going to be grown a lot this year. I have 4 seeds with the 2145 as the female.

I have one seed without the 2145 this year.
2145 McMullen 2624 Willemijns (2145 X 1872) 1944 Pugh (2145 X 2109) 2157 Paton (2096 X 1781) No 2145 here...

I have one but will save it for next year. I figure lots of great crosses will be made this year and use it on something next year

It doesn't do any good sitting on the shelf! Every year there are new, bigger seeds, and likely something different will prove out to be amazing. I have a friend with 3, but I think he's only going to plant one, which I don't understand. I generally dislike planting seeds that are 2+ years old; I feel like we need to be moving forward, planting the new, unproven and the weights will collectively go up.

I'm growing one and holding on to the other. Also growing a 800. I think Cindy's point is legit.Theres likely to be a second generation 2145 cross that does great this year and will be the next must grow seed. Its the nature of the hobby.

I agree. I like to hold on if I can. Even if I don't grow it it would greatly benefit our club in an auction.

I will probably save mine for our club's auction.
Besides, Alex's 1795.5 McCracken (2145 x 1625) 17% is enough to get me a PB anyhow.

I wonder if Raven has one that we will see 10 years from now in his diary ? ps. I enjoyed seeing all those seeds from years past and am honored to have had one included with all of those old great ones.

1795.5 McCracken is going in my plans that's a no brainer. I'm surprised not to have seen it in too many auctions this year.

I cant afford a 2145 itself however
My lineup this year: 2624 Willemijns (2145 x 1872) 1944 Connolly (2230.5 x 2145) 1795 McCracken (2145 x 1625)
2145 has superior genes. The 1944 Connolly I likely wont grow this year because I want to save that seed. On paper it has a near perfect family tree.

Gene if you ever change your mind, just ask, I will make sure I have one for you, You were one of the most generous out there with your seeds, I respect that, and for that you just need to say the word.

Funny you say that Crappie. I do have a 2145 but unfortunately you wont see it 10 years down the road as I am actually going to grow it this season. Maybe I will cross that 695 Handy into it! Very glad you enjoyed seeing all the goodies from the past. Every so often I do catch hell from growers asking why I never grew that 1068... and I have no answer to that lol!!

Not growing one... it's clearly a great seed but I believe there are other seeds just as good. A little accidental drool when I glanced at Cindy's diary... I guess my mouth was open.
