Wondering how to set up and plant for a 150 plot. 10'x15'? Plant in corner and flag pattern down the length letting secondaries run 10' across the plot? What is the most popular way to go about this? Thanks

There were a few different approaches to planned vine patterns last year. I didn't use a popular method. I tried to be creative... http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=253510 I still think that this plan has some potential but it causes difficulty too. Depending on if i do my 150 plant at home or at the community garden I will modify the plan to try to make the best use of the area i am growing in. Still over a month to decide on my plan on how to try to break the 1k in 150. Welcome to the contest Jay...will be watching to see how you approach the challenge.

Many like the flag pattern, but I personally had best results with vines on each side. I have no reasoning for my preference other than each node will be active on the main vine with a side vine as opposed to flag pattern where only every other node is active with a side vine.
The below is old, but this picture still amazes me and this is also why I like vines on each side. Over 700lbs grown in 105sq feet in 2008 (old genetics and products).

Thanks bnot for sharing. Wow Smallmouth. That's amazing. Hoping to do 2 150 plots and 1 200 plot with AG in 2 and big greenie in 1. Would love to see more layouts if anyone is willing to share.

My plot is 8x18ft..I start about 4 ft from one end...in the middle...a few secondaries will run up the sides of plot...the first secondary will curl behind stump...

Here is what I did for my 814.5
In general I think a trapazoid shape with a wider base and a narrower top is the way to go rather than a rectangle. That way your older vines are longer and you can get more established plant behind the pumpkin before it sets.

I used a bit more aggressive pattern starting with a trapezoid similar to captain97 but with a triangle at one end with the plan to drop the pumpkin in it. I then had a vine pattern starting as Mike-S but then I turned the last two secondaries on each before the pumpkin to run back down towards the stump. Yes its crazy busy but offers a little bit of everything. Not sure I will try that again. Need more pounds. For starters I will not plant an orange seed.
