DONKIN has a good point, actually. Translated, his point states that the General Discussion board should be only for the "General Discussion" of pumpkin related topics and only that. He is correct. There needs to be some boundaries or what's the point of these boards. It will become a pile of trash. People with legit feedback will fade away. Someone who can type a little and has administrative access to this site can create a "Sports Only" discussion board, or "Politics Only", or better yet get back to what this site was meant for and clean it up. New people are turned off by the political bickering. Take it to FB. People will push the boundaries on this site until it is just a useless pile of garbage. Boundaries and organization need to be reset.

I agree with Donkin, the General Discussion board used to be about pumpkins. Over the years it has become a discussion board about everything but politics. The non related board has become a sounding political board for a few. I also never go to the non related board. I also agree with what Dave and Quinn and others are saying. Maybe we need a sports board.

Does it really matter? You don't have to read every post. If you're not interested, "don't read it". The fact is that the same people complain on virtually every board, which speaks more to the individuals not the 'board' that the discussion is taking place. Just lighten up and join in or not.

It's not just about sports but also other topics.
People just are avoiding that other board and I think you will find there are a lot of watchers on this site that do not feel comfortable joining in. As for why ask them.

Good one chops. It's true though, the "other" board has become a political venting outlet for a few. I took the bait a few days ago and have been kicking myself in the knockers ever since.

Football posts in February on the General Discussion board is completely appropriate. Next month I will probably put feelers out for a March madness contest. Appropriate? Absolutely,this is what bonds many of us before the true madness begins this Spring.

Politics have hijack the non related pumpkin board and large number of people including myself are turned off by that and now post here because of that. So i sugest that we need to make a political board so that we can get the non pumpkin related board back from the hijackers.

While I do have strong political leanings, I value people in the giant pumpkin community to the point that I don't want to taint relationships with politics. So my vote is make a politics board, and put a "skull and crossbones" warning on it, enter at your own risk! lol Everything else could go here, as long as traffic is this low. But I'd like to think that there are still good giant pumpkin topics that need more discussion. Some of the winter discussions of the past were awesome.

Although I do sometimes partake in some of the political wooha, I agree with CliffWarren. I've tried on multiple occasions to talk seasonal fishing, sports, Bigfoot (is he real), and even after market exhaust systems for vehicles with little success in the Non PR board. Everything is immediately diluted by 100 political posts. Maybe an additional political board wouldn't be so bad especially since there are a couple folks who come on BP exclusively to argue politics.

As for a few football posts around the Superbowl, Donkin just needs to lighten up.

This site was originally for the sport of growing giant pumpkins and other giant vegetables. Filled with great information to help growers and rookie growers. I for one do not come on the site like I used too, and have noticed other growers not posting either. I'd like too see Big Pumpkins come back too how it used to be. Just my opinion!!!

Its because of guys like Donkin that push the veteran growers away, It's simply a case of pure lack of respect. He has systematically attacked many a grower because of a post. It has nothing to do with what is posted where, it's all about the attitude one brings when he sits down in front of the computer. And Jim said it best, If you don't want to read about sports, don't open the thread, especially when all your doing is bitch.

Sometimes it seems like there is an attack mentality when disagreeing with a persons opinion . There is a proper way to express your opinion without belittling another person.
I would imagine stuff like this is turning people like Joe and other growers from joining in.
Any other people that watch but are reluctant to post please join in . and do not be afraid to express your opinion on this discussion.

A little off the original topic but fits with some of the comments. Ken added a Great feature the IGNORE option a couple years ago. If you have one or more growers that you dislike their post for any reason use the ignore option. You will never see a post from them again. I ignore several for different reasons.

This is getting a little ridiculous, so lets break it down. A well known s-disturber is annoyed at the lack of "pumpkin related" posts on the general discussion board. This same poster has alienated himself from the BP community by a history of personal attacks on the Wallace's and others for reasons unknown. This is February, General Discussion during Winter, football season and the weather is just that. I don't know about you, but I have a life outside of pumpkin growing and in Winter it is reflected in what I post or read on here. General discussion....
Anyone who has been here a while knows that during the quiet hours there are many posts that aren't related to pumpkin growing. They also know that as soon as the warm days appear the conversation shifts to everything related to growing giant vegetables of any kind.

How much traffic are the other giant categories getting now? Field pumpkins, bushel gourds, long gourds, squash etc., not much. As soon as the weather permits things will pick up. Did I mention it's February? Ask a good question it will get answered.

There is a valid reason for a post on general discussion vs some of the other boards. When I am at home, i can access all boards easily. But when i am using my bigpumpkins app on my phone, i only have access to general discussion. Lately I have used the app only for diary entries and access full site from the web on my phone, but i am sure some others might be relying all on the app. I do not mind seeing more threads. But with more threads, I encourage that the subject line gives a good hint of what it is about.
