Does anyone know anything about these? I was gifted some seeds from a (show/prize winner) which weighed 742lbs. that was pollinated with an Atlantic Giant of unknown lineage. I was able to find out that typical weights are up to 400lbs and they come in a variety of colors. Planning to grow a couple out. I guess I could possibly get a large green squash or other various colored, large fruits. Anybody have thoughts that they care to share? Thanks in advance.

I grow prizewinners in my commercial operation. I have never heard of one getting to 700 pounds though. I have seeds from several pumpkins that were prizewinner x AG crosses that got in the 400 to 500 pound range. I had a beautiful 334 lb pumpkin this year that was a 150 Rea x self. the 150 Rea was a Prizewinner x AG Every prizewinner I have grown has been very nice orange. Of course a lot would depend on what the AG was like it was crossed with. You can look in my 2016 diary -- agteacher-- last entry is 12/15 and you will see results of Prizewinner x AG seeds. Also have pumpkin pictures in my 2015 and 2014 diary from prizewinner x AG crosses. Again they produce nice 200 to 500 lb pumpkins when crossed with an Ag but do not have 1000 lb potential in my opinion.

Rich could that be a Show King/Prizewinner. The Show King is a giant squash which make your size be correct.

It was orange so I don't suppose it would be officially considered a squash but it could be the result of a cross. I was told the seeds that produced the fruit were pitched in a nursery but not really

Did a search on show winner pumpkin and got a couple of sites that are selling seeds. Below is their description. Could not find the origin of them.

"As the name implies, this is the pumpkin to grow if you want to win a novelty contest. The giant pumpkins develop in an array of colors, including orange, yellow, grey, blue or green, and can weigh 250-400 pounds. Enjoy Show Winner as a decoration, as the flesh is too watery for culinary use.

Very rare."

maybe look into this

Stellpflug did not offer Pukos the secret he yearns for. Stellpflug, a retired Eastman Kodak Co. engineer, won this year's local pumpkin event with a 752 1/2 -pound specimen -- far off the 800-pound mark he knew it would take to win the world championship.

"My jack-o'-lantern crop was the best ever," he said. "I have about 2,000 of them growing in my three-quarter-acre plot in Rush in Livingston County."

But Stellpflug finished second in the world, and Waterman finished third with a 742-pound specimen.
