Has anybody grown a AG with free ranging chickens near by? If so could you tell me pros and cons of it... Would they harm the plant? Would they eat bugs?

He had free ranging chickens once on our farm. They ate tons of bugs and pooped all over everything too. Ate em after they started pecking the young pumpkins.

No, definitely not, Nope, don't do it. Uh Uh, Bad idea. Negatory It's a poop storm coming bubbles. Them chickens love those fresh greens. And, added bouus, they will scratch up the young plants.

I got this idea from Linus, it works. He says you can free range the chickens, but you have to let them out for only a couple of hours right before dark. If they are left to free range any more than that, they start to dig and scratch up and peck the plants. The chickens love the protection they get underneath the thick cover of pumpkin leaves.

I did for a while last year until they were free ranged by a local fox. They do eat the leaves and dig holes in the soft dirt. Also wild turkeys do love to eat pumpkin leaves, almost as bad as a woodchuck.

On the pro side, the eggs are yummy and you might find out why they cross the road...

Why did the pumpkin cross the road?
Because it was in the chicken.

Our chickens terrorized my daughters gourds last year that weren't fenced in. No way I'd let them in the pumpkin patch.
