I want to congratulate all the big heavy kins this season.Great job to all.For the new growers who came on board in the last 10 years.Just a FYI.Prior to 2006 I believe it was?Pumpkins had to be 50% orange to be a pumpkin all others were squash.I want to grow what Howard Dill was growing.Big Orange pumpkins.I would love to cross the 1317-1338-1912-1947 etc. into some of these non-orange giants. The combinations will produce some WR ORANGE kins.Lets get back on track with Howard.I will be changing Pumpkin contests this season for 2017.In 2017 I will roll all 3 contests into 1 contest The Big Orange Contest. The pumpkins must be orange to win.I will except the lite peachy orange. But will revert back to the old rules.50% orange to win.All others will be squash.Or as my good friend Albert Gfeller says SQRAUSH.I see Ron grew some orange kins this season & Quinn just took a great 1746 Orange beauty to Chicago. We can do it!!!You can HELP!! CROSS ORANGE!!

Hey mark,I believe the old rule was anything with more than 25% squash colors was ruled a squash-that rule was a nightmare to enforce on tricolored fruit. The current rule is much easier to interpret -don't see anybody rushing to change it :)

I think promoting Orange Pumpkins is a good thing which some of us have gotten away from. Who doesn't love a big Orange Pumpkin?

now that I have grown my first ugly..I might have to leave the pursuit of orange next year. So far I am not suffering any psychological damage. All winter to get to decide if i am going to germinate a seed that has a low chance of orange.
