What is the difference between planting annual rye and winter rye. I can only find annual locally and was wondering where I can find winter rye.

Feed supply stores usually have it or try "farm supply" or "agricultural supply" when searching locally.

Your county extension agent can help you as well.

Annual rye is a grass, often used to beef up weak pastures, does not produce grain. It does not get as big as cereal rye and will winter kill. Winter rye or cereal rye is a winter annual, planted in fall and grain ripen following summer. I had some get over 6' tall this year. I get it from a couple of local farm seed dealers.

Our local Garden center carries it. So you could ask one near you. I also order from www.Mainepotatolady.com she carries many different cover crops , I like to use the hairy vetch/winter rye mix. her prices are good but shipping costs stink.
