The IGPGA would like to announce that In addition to prize money we have GPC ribbons for second through 10th place for AG pumpkin winners . Also a plaque with Siegels name for heaviest overall pumpkin and a plaque for Howard Dill award.

We have no prize money for these categories but we do have,
plaque for heaviest squash.
ribbons for 1st place long gourd
ribbons for 1st place watermelon
ribbons for 1st place field pumpkin.
This is a first time event for a GPC weigh off in Illinois

If my research is correct no Illinois grower has ever weighed a Squash or Field pumpkin at any GPC event , you should be the first !

There is only one entry for long gourds which was in 2014, and watermelon in 2014 and 2015. Lets get these categories started now.

This is not a first time GPC event in Illinois, but we do have the ribbons and plaques Henry mentioned above. We just want to let people know if they want to get official GPC weights or length of long gourd that we will be glad to weigh these or tape your gourd with judges present.

Henry, in 2000 I weighed my 823.8# squash at Anamosa, IA which is a GPC site. It may still be our state record. Back in 2000 it was almost 45# heavier than our state pumpkin record. Il pumpkin growers have come a long way!!

Nice Heidi....please pass that info to Henry via email so we can update an Illinois Squash record page as well. Now that we have Henry on board and a great core of Illinois growers we need to encourage more Squash, long gourds, foeld pumpkins, watermelons, and a virtual Illinois giant tomato contest to encourage more growers who grow more than AGs. Tomatoes should be weighed when ready on an individual basis for blushing and maturity. As long as a certified butcher or produce scale with pics and the honor system, tomatoes in my opinion should be weighed when ready as Illinois has ranging climates from Wisconsin boarder to Tennesse and Kentucky boarder and impossible for the different regions to sink up to only bring a tomato to a weigh off in late September.

thats a lot of squash Heidi, if you know where I can find older records than 2007 let me know.

When I said first time event I think that's true for a Illinois GPC site, to OFFER a prize for long gourd , watermelon and field pumpkin , maybe I have the info about this wrong
