Well the vine rot I posted about yesterday was much worse than I initially thought. After further inspection I realized that there was nothing left of the vine. It looked to be 99% rotted to the left and right of the pumpkin stem. I decided to cut off the main vine off, back to solid stem, which exposed the hollow part of the stem. There's still a single small secondary hanging on to the end of the stem that I'd like to try and keep. I feel like the pumpkin has no chance of surviving another four weeks with the hole in the stem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I stuff it with something or just try to keep it dry? Maybe go ahead and cut the small secondary and move it to a cool dry place? Thanks in advance for your advice!! I really appreciate it!

I had one rot out the stem. It sat in the patch 5 weeks with no stem. It did go a little light by then. Search 853 Rahe. I just kept it dry.

That gives me a little hope. The tiny secondary that is attached still is pretty pathetic, I have a hard time believing that it is providing much water/nutrients...and the inside of the stem is very wet and seems impossible to dry out. Ron, I'm beginning to think that I need to remove the stem all together like you did on your 853.

I have found if you have a vine going to it it can keep for a while. I also had stem rot once to where i removed half the stem and the pkn made it till the end. I would not stuff the stem hole, keep it dry.
