Is it common practice to put blankets over pumpkins in northern climates? Does it assist in pumpkin growth?

If it gets below 50 we use a sleepin bag to cover at night..I'd be careful w an electric blanket...might cook it

i use hvy quilts in southern utah,, we been in the mid 40's morning temps.. highs only in the upper 60's the last week,, blankets,, you bet every night,, electric blankets,, dont do it,, lol,, pop goes the pumpkin,, believe me,,

Curtlave, Porkchop, Thanks for the advise re: electric blankets. I picked up one for a buck at a yard sale and have been back and forth about using it. I'll use it, just not plugged in. Thanks

Just use regular blankets, make sure they stay dry though. It helps a lot for when the temperature gets below 60 at night which is most nights up here. You have to make sure and have mouse traps set around the pumpkin though because they like to get underneath the blankets and knaw away.
