Chosen fruit at DAP 19 has good shine, looks to be growing (so far), no soft spots, taunt skin - but has developed very textured, skin at this early stage.

Should I be worried and hold off culling back ups? Other pumpkin growing (and pics seen here) look smooth all over at this early stage.
Thanks!

Hi Doug, When I have had plants produce pumpkins looking like that I have a hard time getting any of them bigger than the one in the picture. I hope I am wrong, but I think it is just about ready to abort.

I don't think the texturing you showed in the first picture is an issue. The skin is shiny and looks normal texturing for 19 DAP

In 2012, I had a similar textured pkn early, but it also looked sunken in and almost dehydrated. It was an August pollination that started to look good by day 30 but had a BES on day 45ish. And like Dan said, the skin looks shiny. That's a tough call since my situation was likely due to record heat from that summer.

Thanks all. Just to report back that so far it's hanging on in there (day 28) and still growing:

Fingers crossed.
