I had noticed in past seeing that some growers remove dirt from vine after it is rooted in well. Was just wondering if this is important to vine heatlh as the plant ages because in the past at harvest my vine health has not looked good and I have always left them buried.

I would say yes if your soil is slower draining...especially if you are having vine health issues...

I have been doing just that this season. I'm already under the canopy pulling weeds, so I may as well pull some dirt away from my vines too. I will actually pull enough out so that I can get a few fingers under the vine. I feel that should help if I have air all around the vines.

Thanks for the info. I thought I seen something Ron Wallace put about removing dirt from vines and thought this was possible why he did it.

I'm in the uncover mode now. Good practice so you can see whats going on with your vines over the next 8 weeks.

I like to remove soil from under the vine, so there is air flow under and over.
