I got a really nice shaped three lober in great position that will grow right outside of a raised patch w a July 3rd pol...the next is a four lobe that is positioned in the patch but pol July 14 ....to early to tell if it took...(it was hot)..I'm really liking the 3 lobe except that it is a 3 lobe...who would lose the 10 days for an extra lobe..?..(another opening Tomorw)

Pollinate anyway. you never know what will happen and then in a couple of weeks make a choice. 3 lobes not optimal but better than not going to the scales.

keep the three lober--it will be a longer shape than the 4 lobe but I like the 10 day bonus

Keep 3lobe.

In my opinion the only difference between a 3 and 4 lobe is the 4 lobe will give you more seeds(maybe) in the end. Don't let the number of lobes determine witch kin you keep....again just my opinion!

if the 4 lober has a good start i would take the lober.

Does how far from stump change anyone's opinion...3 lobe at 8 ft vs. 4 lobe at 12 ft. Or how about two 4 lobes at same distances? Peace, Wayne

Everything is a factor PW. The 11 days and position on the garden layout makes me think the three lober will likely grow the heaviest pumpkin but I'm guessing like everyone else.

but i am going to say go with the 3 lober, so if it ends up being a good one i can say "I told you" ...also if the 3 lober ends up being terrible ill just say "why did you listen to me" ....its a win win

I saw stats once posted on here and most records were 4 and 5 lobers, but that may be because not many people grow 3 lobers. Go with your gut if the 3 lober is growing well.

I remember just starting to see some big 3 lobers on the AGGC site just before the site went away. Since then I don't care how many lobes there are. So I vote for 3 lobes.

I pollinated a 5 lober this morning. Being new to the AG's I was a little surprised to see it. Huge leaves compared to most plants and growing like crazy in an orange patch. Is the 5 lober a rarity but a good sign?

5-lobers are pretty common, whereas pretty 5-lobers are just common (sometimes one of the five lobes looks a bit underdeveloped).

Now look at this beauty of a 3-lober, can´t wait to see what I´ll get out of it (it´s the first 3-lober I´m trying to turn into a big one):

I grew this from a 3 lobe in 2014. I lost 90% of the plant from late July- August. I regrew a whole new plant but then my main started to rot right at the pumpkin. It ended up weighing 951 and I'm sure it would have done much better had it not gotten bacterial leaf spot. I would keep it at least until it gets to day 20-25, then see how it looks shape wise then make a decision.

Just wondering (not meaning to hijack this thread): Anyone out there who has seen, taken a pic of or even pollinated and grown a 2-lobe?

When my 150 plant put out a 3 lober at the prime spot, i started doing research on this site about them. Before about year 2000, all the posts were...."cull it immediately". After about year 2000, there started to be some positive comments about the 3 lobe blossums. For better or worse, my 150 sq ft plant is a 3 lobe.

July 7... My bad... So id be giving up a week...cojoe, would you still take the seven days?...and don young... Did the three lober you grew start out ok and just end up small?...this one growing nice...and I ask because I have to build a platform outside the patch or it's falling off its 7" perch(raised bed)...I always thought that more lobes, more weight but petey says no...my gut says go with it but my brain says you got too much real work to do ....and I don't trust the ol lady with a hammer let alone power tools...

I just pollinated a 4 lobe on the 1725 this morning. I've seen mostly 3 and 4 lobe on that plant.
