Hi all, it's been a few years since I have been around and hope all is well in the pumpkin community, I have been wanting to start growing again but haven't had the room to do it until I met a local farmer that is growing pumpkins as well as many other vegetables and fruit, we were talking and he asked me to start a few plants to have for Halloween. I agreed to try it even though it is so late getting started. Well today I planted 3 starts that are 12 days old, I live in a very warm climate and anything could go wrong. Has anyone ever tried to grow giants this late in the game and have any advice on making the best of it?

My first attempt, not knowing what I was doing, I planted store-bought seeds in the garden in mid May. They didn't sprout, got weedy and I tilled them up in late June. They sprouted on July 4. They set 1 fruit, and by Labor Day cucumber beetles shut them down. On the first Saturday od October it weighed 176.6# and I was thrilled with last place. I think that if you have good seeds and take good care of the plant and have decent weather you could get something respectable.
