I have a plant with a pumpkin at 9 feet or should I wait until the plant reaches 15 feet plus which may be 2-3 weeks from now?
I feel the longer I wait, the smaller the pumpkin I will end up with despite the longer vines.
Am I wrong?

pollinate it, you can still grow a monster at 9 ft if you wait that's just more weight and time you have lost

now time far more important then distance and there is zero proof that any length past 8 feet is better then another length

I agree with Pumpkin JAM that time is a more important factor than distance at this point. That said, maybe 8' in Tinykinville is the optimal distance but there certainly is proof that more than 8' of plant feeding the pumpkin yields larger results.
