How bad would it be to water with town water right out of the tap. I now fill barrels and let them sit for a few days then pump it from there. This all takes extra time...but I can smell the chlorine right out of the hose if I don't let it sit. Are the levels of chlorine going to hurt?? I mean we drink it so is it that bad?? Any comments?

I read the labels on the additives (chemicals) that I add to my garden. Several of them say to mix w/non chlorinated water. I try to follow the instructions on the labels. Not sure what happens if you use chlorinated water after the application of said chemicals. Good ? Maybe someone smart will help us. Peace, Wayne

I bought a chlorine filter that screws on to hose fitting. Got it on Amazon for 30$. Bought a chlorine test kit this week ( the cheap type sold in Wal-Mart to test pool water. The filtered water showed not a trace. I than tested the unfiltered tap water and that too didn't show a trace. Maybe that the amounts vary in the water cause sometimes it gives a stronger odor.

What you smell is chlorimins not chlorine, it sure won't help your soil microbes.

Go to this website and you can find out all you want to know about your local water, it's quality, tests performed, results and list of additives.

I have heard it said several times that in very warm or hot weather most or all of chlorine added to municipal water supplies has evaporated by the time it reaches the faucets of consumers.

BFFF, allowing water to sit for a day has many benefits including the benefit of bringing tap water to room temperature which also reduces stress to the plant during watering.

Thanks for the input. i think i will continue with barrels. Biddygoat. That is a good point even if the chlorine is not an issue. Nothing better than a warm rain. Have not had a natural warm rain yet this season so i might as well create my own.
