I have a backup fruit on a large secondary vine that is pear shaped. It is now at nine days post pollination. This kin had a late day pollination probably at the end of possible pollen receptiveness. Might the reason for the pear shape be due to only partial pollination ? Do partial pollinations usually make it to maturity ? I am probably going to remove this fruit and am just wanting some opinions on pear shaped kins.

Have you set anything else-if another one sets and is pear shaped/or not that will answer your question.A late in the day fruit set is prob. set if the growth is 3 or more inches cc. If its growing that much then you can expect the other fruit to be pear shaped.

I had a pear shaped pumpkin last year. It was pear shaped a few days after pollination until Weigh-Off Day. It had an even distribution of seeds. I noticed that a majority of the young pumpkins on that plant had the same shape. My thoughts were that the shape was more genetically related.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and cut that one off for the one I really want to grow on the main vine. It looks like it may be a bit of a pear also but not nearly as much. It may even grow out of it I think. It is at nine days and should be close to basketball size by day 10, tomorrow.
