i dont get on bp as much as in past years but cant help but notice some very basic growing procedures seem to be lacking in many posted questions.
this is not an easy hobby friends. we all know much more can go wrong than can go right.
there are some very fine publications available especially to the new grower. id like to suggest many of the newer less experienced gardeners get a hold of these publications and start reading.
many say they just want to grow a pumpkin and are not interested in the competition? i say anything worth doing is worth doing right. ya wanna succeed? start researching, get in with an experienced grower in your area. ---- well worth the effort.
luck only goes so far in this hobby (like a storm passing you by and hitting just down the road ),experience and knowledge however is the real secret to get you through the entire season.

Today growers have to learn to have the mind set to be number one.First learn what soil is then learn how plants grow. There a place call a library check books teach yourself the easy things. Then start talking to other growers go to weigh off and asked questions from growers that have done it for awhile. The addiction of growing will take over your life.If your just want a nice one for the front yard for Halloween then grow a big max.

A big thanks to Ron for his diary. I'm trying to implement some of the things I'm seeing.

This is my first year growing, I spent the winter reading all I could, I'll no doubt never finish learning. I utilize this site a lot to learn things as well. I also do a tremendous amount of Googling.

I have been on this site for about ten years now, this year is a really good one for diaries. It is helpful to see the patches of heavy hitters and to hear there thoughts throughout the season.

thats the greatest secret regarding this hobby. information sharing.
no one is afraid to see someone suceed. quite the opposite. we feel a sence of pride when growers accomplish their goals.

Books are great, newsletters are great.I need hands on learning with it.For me, there's no doubt I need to get with somebody local. My problem, my own fault I admit, is I'm going so many directions at once between the things I'm interested in, and the life things I have to do, is that I need somebody to say, ok be here this day, this time, and we're going to do this.I know there's growers near me, but I don't know them
